- Wednesday, day 1: Welcomes and discussions in the Stamp Student Union, Univ. of Maryland, College Park campus.
- Thursday, day 2: Discussion and press conference at the U.S. Capitol; tour and programming at the Library of Congress.
- Friday, day 3: Community Journalism Day at the Newseum; talks, tours and a catered Wolfgang Puck lunch.
- Saturday, day 4: Critiques followed by the awards banquet.
- Sunday: sadly saying goodbye.
You can fly Baltimore Washington Int’l (BWI) or Reagan National. You can fly Dulles, too (there’s a shuttle then metro option, but it’s a haul–90mins at least).
- Take the shuttle from the airport to the BWI/MARC train station.
- Take the Marc Train south (toward DC) from BWI to Metro Center Station (downtown DC)
- Take the Red Line Metro (toward Shady Grove)
- SWITCH at the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro Station (just two stops from Metro Center).
- Take the Green Line (toward Greenbelt Metro Station)
- Exit at UMD/ College Park Station
- Take the shuttle to campus.
- Take the Blue Line Metro (Toward Largo Town Center) OR Take the Yellow Line (Toward Ft. Totten).
- In either case, SWITCH trains at L’Enfant Metro Station.
- Take the Green Line (toward Greenbelt Metro Station).
- Exit Green Line at UMD College Park Station.
- Take Shuttle to Campus.
We have a number of people and groups arriving to the conference either Monday night or sometime on Tuesday. That is swell! The University of Maryland will be waiting for you in the lobby of the Prince Frederick dorm (Building #425, Sector D12 on the map, click here); the desk is open 24 hours during our regular conference.
The desk will open for Monday arrivals on an as-needed basis.

Dean Lucy Dalglish from the Merrill School of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park will welcome us, along with students from the esteemed program.
Rob Logan from the National Institutes of Health, Frank LoMonte from the Student Press Law Center and Tonda Rush of the National Newspaper Association will walk us through what they are watching.
Andy Alexander of Foothills Forum, a nonprofit news venture; Samantha Harman, for the Greenslade Bursary; Gordon Cameron, winner of this year’s Mazza Scholarship; and Bill Miller, winner of the Cervi award will give us the 411 on their activities.
A host of people at the Library of Congress will show us around the beautiful buildings and help us with the journalism history and culture found there.

Long-term parking is available at the University of Maryland during our conference. You receive it on a first-come, first-served basis. There should be plenty.
At UMD, you rent a spot in the garage for hours, a day, or multi-days (at about $20/day). Park in the garage and then pay for the space at the kiosk in the garage (the parking fees are not included in the conference registration). Since transportation is taken care of with your conference fee, you can park your car in the lot and leave it for the entirety of the conference.
The best parking for us is Mowatt Lane Garage (Sector D12, Building #404).

Update: After the ISWNE Winter board meeting, the decision was made to move away from the Metrocards to buses for our two main trips. We will not be issuing the metrocards.

Kelly Clemmer, former ISWNE board president and artist, stepped up this year with a great T-shirt design. Shirts are $25 on the conference registration form on the ISWNE.org website or with this online form.
“Try the ice cream!” Those were the glorious words from the hero of planning, Jonathan McKinney. Jonathan is the king of our planning at the University of Maryland.
Those are, of course, dangerous words, given that the ice cream store is in the Stamp Student Union, the home of ISWNE2017.
But why try the ice cream? It comes from UMD’s cows. For over 90 years, the agricultural program at College Park has churned out the creamy goodness for the Maryland Dairy. We get to reap the rewards.
